Background

I am trained as an industrial designer with a foundation in mechanical engineering and manufacturing. As a design consultant, I have helped bring dozens of products to market and generated patents for the medical, optical and electronics fields. I have conducted research in the United States and Europe, working with respected clients such as Philips, SC Johnson, Dell, Abbott, and Whirlpool. I have earned my BSME and BA degrees from the University of Notre Dame.

Currently, I serve as Lead Industrial Designer at Optimal Design in Chicago, IL.

Approach

I view design not as an exercise, but a mindset. It is the process of bringing aesthetics, utility, and economics into harmony. It requires balancing restraint with expression; knowing when to execute and when to change course.

It is a unique profession, in that it draws influences from art, customer research, marketing, culture, technology and manufacturing. Though navigating this landscape can be challenging, it is also what makes design so rewarding. It is the perfect blend of craft and problem solving; a union of the hands and mind with the intent to innovate.

Design provides the means to drive industry and improve lives. That is the inspiration behind my work, and what pushes me to strive for ever greater heights.
